About

A real estate investment company, at work since 2008.

Clay Investments invests its own capital and advises partners and clients. The work is real estate — with particular depth in affordable housing, and a lasting presence on Lake Norman.

The story

The office is in Cornelius, North Carolina, on the north side of Charlotte. From here the firm has been involved, since 2008, in real estate transactions totaling more than $1 billion in value. That figure includes work as an active investor and work as a consultant.

Affordable housing is the longest thread: manufactured housing communities and recreational vehicle communities. That is not a sideline. It is where a great deal of time and ownership has been spent — and it is the part of the market we continue to seek.

In parallel, Clay Investments pursues real estate development and other business opportunities in Charlotte’s fast-growing Lake Norman area. The commercial work tends toward older, under-utilized properties that can be positioned for highest-and-best use. The residential work is done with local developers, from a single spec home to townhomes and subdivisions.

As of 2026, the firm has 21 active investments across five states. Inquiries — including communities that may be for sale — come to the office directly.

Approach

Two roles.

As investors, we take ownership positions. As consultants, we bring that same experience to partners and clients.

Both roles sit inside the same company: ownership on one hand, advice to partners and clients on the other.

If you have a community to discuss, a Lake Norman property, or a general inquiry, write or call. We reply as quickly as possible.
